Saturday Business Feature: Dripping Springs Chocolate | Hill Country Moms

Tracey Wilson with Dripping Springs Chocolate

Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in the area?
I grew up in Kentucky, but we moved our family to the Dripping Springs area in 2006.

What brought you to open your business? What did you do previously?
My husband & I have been entrepreneurs for over 20 years, but our other businesses aren’t nearly as fun as chocolate!

When did the idea of creating your business start? How long have you been in business? What was your inspiration to start?
After a mission trip in 2014, my husband and I searched for a way to help provide jobs to people in impoverished communities. We discovered that cacao grows only near the equator, much of it in impoverished areas.

This discovery lead us to become bean-to-bar craft chocolate makers and to found Dripping Springs Chocolate Co in 2016.  Since that time, we’ve gone from producing tiny batches of chocolate in our home kitchen to outfitting a small chocolate factory, which now produces enough chocolate to stock 40+ retailers in Central Texas.

What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur?
Seeing how happy our chocolate makes people!

What makes you unique?
We use only ethically-sourced cocoa beans, which ensures that the cacao farmers are paid a fair wage, and there is no child/slave labor.

Can you tell a few things you offer?
Dripping Springs Chocolate Co makes many varieties of craft chocolate bars, barks, hot cocoa mix, cocoa spice rub, brownie mix & more.

What is your favorite part about what you do?
We get to be a small part of everyone’s happy celebrations.

What does the future look like for you and your business?
God has already grown this business beyond what we thought it would do, so it will be exciting to see what He does next.

What advice would you give to others that want to start something new?
Start small, so you can figure out what works and what doesn’t and grow a little at a time.  I always want to under-promise and over-deliver.

Any advice for juggling all the things in daily life?
I am not the person to ask!  I wish I was better at work/life balance.

Dripping Springs Chocolate will be at the Moms Night Out Event October 5th to pair wines with their lovely chocolates.
